hi friends! so, i haven't been happy with mossyrock for a long long
time. that is until recently when re-releasing the three EPs in one
tidy little package. something about fixing that up and giving it all
away for free just felt so good. a cleansing of sorts. it was a great
little project which brought us all over the globe but there was always
just this one element that was wrong about it. and while that element
is gone - i still feel like mossyrock was something that had a beginning,
a middle, and very much an end.
so i have come to the conclusion that the only thing that makes sense
is to end mossyrock. hahahahaa! R.I.P.
nothing to be sad about though! this makes what i want to do with taperecorder
so very clear now. i will still be playing with bethany spiers (and
as always jeffro 'mr behind the scenes' richards). i have already been
incorporating winning elements of mossyrock with my whole taperecorder
deal. we even re-recorded a few unreleased mossyrock songs recently.
so follow the continuing saga over there: taperecorder
stuff.

hiya! there is a new mossyrock remix out now! we remixed a song off
of nice+smooth label mates sol azul's new album "amame". somehow we
ended up doing a lovely, dubby, chilled out, dancy party grooved remix.
definitely fun stuff!
it is called poquito de amor [mossyrock's dance party remix] and you
can find it here,
here,
or here.
-
07/18/08 :: new e.p.
revisited!
okay. so, we all sat down the other night and drank some wine and had
a good long talk about what was next. we came up with the idea of a
new and different e.p. than the last tour only one and the news that
we reported below. we have put together a lovely e.p. called 'the warmth
of a whisper' which will be released august 15th through galactique.
it is a five song e.p. (with a 6 song cd version) that will be available
at all fine digital download shops everywhere. the artwork has ben completed
and everything is a go! tracklisting: clouds moisten & rain falls, i
want to eat your eyes, room 320, you give girls the creeps, not wrong
[blank remix], and the bonus song on the cd version is called five cans
of chicken meat. exciting!!!
-
07/03/08 :: video
& e.p!
our april tour e.p. is now being officially released as the 'i want
to eat your eyes' e.p. in mid august. it will be available everywhere
digitally, as well as in a physical version that you can get from us
at shows and probably from our online shop. it won't be exactly the
same as the tour e.p. version. the songs will be mixed a little differently,
the order rearranged, and there will be an extra song somewhere that
we didn't finish in time for the tour. the packaging will not be hand
sewn by us either!
so anyway, keep an ear out for that and an eye out for us on our return
trip to europe sometime in the early autumn. oh, and don't forget: marc
will be back out on vancouver island on july 18th/19th/20th for the
soundwave festival doing his taperecorder
thing - so get on out there for that.
here is a video that we made for 'i want to eat your eyes'. enjoy!
-

on april 16th. click on the shows link above for all the information.
we have also put together a new e.p. that we will be making a limited
hand made run of. we are still debating what to do with it digitally.
maybe we will release it sometime down the road, but right now it is
going to be a 'tour only' kinda thing. it's a six song e.p. which has
the full version of 'i want to eat your eyes', a song with our old friend
toof callled 'girl', and a taperecorder remix. more news and tracklisting
soon...
-
02/02/08 :: cottage
jam
new song! well, a new collaboration resulting in a new song! 'cottage
jam' on the new [blank] e.p. has some mandolin strummin', violin screechin',
toy piano clankin's, and la la la'ins by mossyrock overtop of an already
fine song by montreal's corey martin aka [blank]. you can find it on
the galactique page for free by clicking right
here. there is another song called 'ryan' on there which had some
spooky bowed mandolin on it. fun stuff!
-
14/12/07 :: random tidbits
- our gal bethany ended up winning third place in the williamsburg live
songwriters competition! 3rd out of over 600! she was an absolute badass
that night. damn proud of her we are!
- our new album is finished and mixed and mastered and in the hands
of boy scout recordings head honcho tim 'love' lee. now we sit around
and wait.
- sporadic postings due to us all going off to europe in different directions
for a wee holiday. some random journal scribbles in the journal section...
- the new [blank] record features a song called 'cottage jam' that was
a collaboration between him and mossyrock. the song was actually really
great when he gave it to us so we added just a little mandolin, a tiny
hint of squeeky violin, some off key toy pianoness, and sang some la
la la'sss. i really like the song. you can find
it here for free.
-
10/11/07 :: bethany
our gal bethany is in the finals for the williamsburg live songwriters
competition tomorrow night! she just came in the top 9 out of 600 and
we are damn excited for her! woop woop!
-
25/09/07 :: and, we're back
well, we have been back for a while. we are just days short of wrapping
up our second album! most of it is being mixed & mastered right
now. we are just finishing up the vocal recordings of the last song.
i can say without a doubt that this is the best music we have ever made.
i am so unbelievably happy with it and i can't wait for it to be out
there!
we have also just finished working on a song with montreal's [blank].
it is for a new e.p. that he is releasing sometime this autumn. we have
also been filming for a video. or two. more news on that soon.
oh yeah - here is vino
collapso live at union pool. it is a little rough around the edges,
but good stuff none the less. brought to you by the free page at galactique.net!
-
28/07/07 :: break.
so, we are taking a much needed short little break. marc is hoboing
across canada thumbing rides and trainhopping (you can read about in
the journal section). dominica has finally picked her camera back up
after a long thesis induced break. we will be getting together mid august
with our friend corey martin aka [blank] to nail down the final version
of our perpetually almost finished follow up album. exciting!
so, that's that. don't forget about our new e.p. and the boy scout recordings
compilation. combined they have 8 new songs: 3 cover songs, 3 new songs,
and two alternate versions of other songs.
here is a little review of the boy scout recordings compilation: "seventeen
tracks from an eye opening selection of the folk spectrum with tracks
from, apparently tim's grandfather's group, the rural serenaders (beamed
in from a twenties tea dance), the light latin grooves of the sargasso
trio and the hobo country-blues of the excellent turner cody. also worthy
of a mention is the electronic low-key glitch folk of canada's mossyrock,
whose admirably long musical legs allow them a foot in two very distant
camps. a maverick who consistently supplies the goods, tim 'love' lee
again throws the spotlight on some uncommon but deserving gems.

01/07/07 :: home for a moment.
we are home! yet, getting ready to go again. we had a wonderful road
trip playing 16 shows in 16 days. we ventured thru brand new territory
(for us) playing a whole slew of new cities. it was my favourite adventure
yet! you can read all about some of it by clicking the journal link
above. next stop vancouver island for the soundwave festival!
don't forget that our new e.p. of covers and alternate versions of songs
is out now. you can find the 5 song digital version anywhere that sells
digital music (here,
here
or here).
there is also a limited edition lovingly handmade 6 song e.p. that can
be found in our shop.
we are all thrilled with this e.p. and we hope that you will enjoy it
too!
-
08/06/07
it is happening again....
-
18/05/07
our new e.p. is finished and out now!
the release date for the cd was may 16th. it will be released digitally
in late june. possibly a 7" version of the e.p. too if we can find
someone who is still making vinyl at a reasonable cost. this is our
third release and we are so happy with it and excited about it. it's
available at our online shop now! click the link above to go to our
shop or click the music link to hear some clips of the songs...
-
20/04/07
lot's of great news and fun things happening around here. we have just
finished our new e.p! it is a collection of covers, alternate versions,
and some downright weirdness. the songs were recorded in various intimate
settings with our friends (and dog). one song features the violin work
of camper van beethoven's jonathan segal. there is a cover of a lullaby
baxter song, a fruit bats song, and a cover of a cover (we covered camper
van beethoven's cover of a fleetwood mac song). there is a live song
from the zero to one sessions (recorded at union pool) and
a rowdy version of a pretty song from our upcoming full length. i think
we are planning on releasing it in three versions: cd, digitally, and
on 7" vinyl...
whew!
we will be hitting the road to promote our new e.p. (it's called 'i
know i'm not wrong') in june and july. june will find us doing
another tour with the big art show kids and james
apollo throughout the midwest. july will be bringing us back to
the pacific northwest and up into canadaland. we are hoping to cover
some of the same ground we did last year. we are also playing at the
WE festival in wilmington north carolina over the memorial day weekend
(may 26ish)...
and last but not least - our favourite new label - boy scout recordings
will be releasing their thrifty, brave, and clean compilation.
it has two new songs by mossyrock, as well as songs by turner cody,
dawn landes, patrick & eugene (aka groove armada), the sargasso
trio and many more.
recap: lot's of shows and road trips along with 11 brand new songs over
the next few months. hot damn!
-
28/03/07
it has ended. but plans are in motion for another one. we are teaming
up with the big art show again and it looks like we will be doing a
two week tour in june. then we will be off to the pacific northwest
and western canada for a couple of weeks in july. stay tuned or something...
-
02/03/07
it has begun. click on the shows link above and come out and see us!!!
-
17/02/07
less than two weeks until the mossyrock/toof/big art show tour! we have
around 17 show lined up. we are trekking from brooklyn to austin via
the southeast and looking for some much needed adventure along the way.
anyone have any suggestions? we are good for shows (although we have
a night free in the new orleans area that we would love to fill in).
take a look at our shows page and if you see us going anywhere near
something you think is interesting let us know! we are definitely looking
forward to getting on the road with our dear old texan friend toof
and the big art
show kids will be a welcome addition to our adventures...
can i get a 'hells yeah'?
-
25/01/07
dont forget! tonight is the boy scout recordings record label launch!
see you at union pool! 9pm sharp!
-
03/10/06
seems like things have been quiet around here as of late. not true,
not true. we were dead set on releasing a 5 song e.p. called lizards
are still silent and were in the midst of shopping it when a fella that
we had sent it to replied to us. he said that he liked what he had heard
and was wondering if we could send him some more music. we were leaving
in a few days for 3 weeks so we took all the little half finished ideas
we
had and stayed up all night and day finishing them up best we could.
next thing you know - we have a whole album worth of material. so that
has been the major project we are focusing on. we were planning a slew
of shows and abandoned that idea so we can spend some more time putting
the finishing touches on our new record.
also, recently we worked with someone we have been a big fan of for
years and recorded him playing his lovely
violin on a couple of songs. it sounds really fucking beautiful...
-
26/06/06
home. back in the big clusterfuck.
that was a wonderful tour. we met a million nice people. the weather
was perfect. the festivals were great (and completely professional).
we received more great press (which you can read in the press section).
so much good music, so many beautiful places. we are feeling a bit sad
that it has come to an end. thanks to everyone who helped us out.
